Model tests on rainfall induced slope failure in geotechnical centrifuge

Supervisor: Prof. Hai-sui Yu

Objective: Centrifuge model tests on rainfall induced slope failures

Methodology: Model tests on rainfall induced slope failures with well defined initial and boundary conditions will be carried out. The model slopes will be prepared with the benchmark soils from WP1. Model tests will be carried out for different slope inclinations by varying rainfall intensity and duration. The intensity and duration of rainfall will be changed by remote control during the flight. The model tests will be intensively instrumented, e.g. PIV and pressure gauges, to provide well documented database for validation of the numerical simulations in WP2.

Deliverable: Comprehensive centrifuge test programme on rainfall induced slope failures
